Why have I lost my 2GB of data upgrade?

As a result of our broadband failing more than a year ago, I was given a free upgrade of 2GB of data a month still at the same price of my contract. I have now just been told that it’s down to 750MB a month as a new customer when I have been with EE for many years. How can I get it back without being overcharged?
