Yesterday, I recieved a text message from EE saying I had used 80% of my data. Since then, I have only been disconnected from the a wifi connection for maximum of half an hour with very little apps running in the background. I have been connected to the wifi this morning since 8am but I have just had a text from EE saying I have used up all of my allowance. I don't understand how when I am on the wifi though? I don't have wifi assist turned on.
Not sure what phone you have but check under settings and you will see a data app which will tell you what data you have used over wifi and mobile data. It will also tell you what apps have used your data.
