My contract ends on 10th of March 2017 so I called on 10th of February 2017 to give my notice. I was told the line would terminate at the end of the contract.
I called today and asked for the PAC code as I have decided to keep the number. I was told requesting a PAC code will require a further 30 days notice.
Is this really the case? I cannot understand why they cannot provide the PAC code as there is still time before my contract ends.
Any input on this subject will be appreciated.

This is not the case.
They have to give you a PAC code if requested within 2 hours.
Once a PAC code has been requested the cancellation request will be stopped. If you do not use the PAC code within 30 days your current contract will continue as they will automatically think you have changed your mind.
Once you have used the PAC code your contract will end and number port over within 48 hours.

Thanks for replying.
EE said they will give me my PAC code but it will start another 30 days notice period. This means I will need to pay up until 27th of March 2017 if I requested the code today.

Not entirely true.
You will pay up to your end date or up until you used your PAC code.
I suggest ringing again.
