I'm considering buying this phone but see that it does not support band 20 (800MHz). Can you advise me what kind of issues this might present, and how severe these might be? I live near a major city.

EE’s main LTE Bands are 1800 and 2600.
EE only has a very small portion of band 20 available, so if you live near a major city then there should not be a problem.
Let’s put it in another way, Virgin Mobile operates on EE’s network without band 20, and the service seems to be fine.

Not having band 20 isn't going to be a major issue data wise on EE, however, with it not being a EE supplied handset, there's every chance that WiFi calling and 4G calling (VoLTE) probably wont work.

VoLTE means calling over 4G which usually leads to higher quality and means you can use 4G at the same time for data.
WiFi calling means can call and text over WiFi if the mobile network is not available.
800MHz is used for in building and rural coverage so not having it can be fairly disadvantageous in certain areas.
