DNS issues on mobile data

I keep getting intermittent DNS problems whilst on mobile data.

 

I cant put a finger on what it is and a reboot seems to solve the problem. But it is repeatedly coming up with pages showing

 

<website url> server DNS address could not be found

 

Then err_name_not_resolved

 

or

 

dns_probe_finished_nxdomain

 

One minute it will work and the next it will fail. And even more confusingly some websites will work and some will fail.

 

Any suggestions?

Which phone/browser are you using? 

 

Are you on EE, Tmobile, Orange? 

 

Are you monthly contact or PAYG.

Using a Nexus 6P on Android 7.1. Mainly use Chrome but tried Dolphin and had the same problem. Also happens when i try and open a Now card on Google Now which i know opens card up in Chrome Custom Tabs rather than what ever browser i attempt to use.

 

Im on EE and on a monthly contract.

Ok I shall do.

 

Would changing between signal towers be a potential cause of this?

 

I've had music cut out and then a DNS failure whilst in a car which has been solved by switching airplane mode. Apparently switching airplane mode on and off flushes the DNS (which, as I understand, so does a reboot). Just crossed my mind as my phone will obviously be Bouncing between towers.

This same issue was with me but I sort out this by getting internet settings Internet - EE Setup and working for me now.

@yatezy please click on above link find your Mobile and inter your mobile number you will get settings on your phone please remember you will also see the the password on Internet - EE Setup page after interning your details that you need install these settings in your phone.

I hope you issue will be resolve doing this.

For some reason it does not want to show my mobile on the list. I know the code name for the 6P is the Angler but maybe it's one of the U numbers towards the bottom of the list?

 

I'll try this route first since resetting the phone up is a hassle. Would it matter if I used another devices setting, obviously from the same OEM, as these must just be the options for contacting to the Internet which I imagine are all the same for EE?

@yatezy: No, it won't matter. They are EE's settings. It's just that their presentation might be diff.

Just an update on the sitution.

 

I set up my Internet details using the Pixel which allowed me to set it up manually. Pretty much everything was the same apart from 2 settings, the name and the protocol used.

 

Whilst i was having the problem i noticed my DNS was showing a IPv6 code rather than a IPv4. Whilst going through the settings the APN protocol was set as 'IPv4/IPv6'.

 

The new settings have been left at default which is IPv4.

 

I shall try to replecate the problem by switching back to IPv4/IPv6 setting.

Switching to IPv4/IPv6 did replecate the issue.

 

Maybe someone with more knowledge could explain why this could cause a problem? For the time being i'll leave it on IPv4 only since that has not cause me a problem at all since it has happened.

I have been suffering with this for the last day or so. I can confirm setting the Protocols to TCP IP V4 fixes the issue.

I have been having the same trouble with not being able to get on websites and twitter not updating but all the while streaming music without issue on my HTC 10.

 

Got EE settings resent and set up new APN but i  can confirm that i also had to  change the protocols to IPv4 to fix the problem.
