Changed plan, got a data usage question

Because the last plan had expired I have just changed our package. There are 2 phones on the account, both SIM only. Both have a 12 month package of unlimited texts, unlimited calls and 250MB of data (EE SIM 12m 250MB £11R). I also have a 5GB add-on for being a broadband customer.

We have also been given some 'shared data' which seems to be an added 500MB per month.
My question is - is the shared data split evenly at the start of each billing cycle so we both get 250MB, or is it split 'as used' ?
I ask as my wife often gets up to 300MB a month usage and don't want to be hit with charges if the shared data is used first, and I use it all before I hit my 5GB add-on and she just works through her 250MB.

But which data is used first? The 'shared' or the 250MB that comes with the plan ?

If the shared goes first then chances are I will use it all up, before hitting the 5GB extra I have. That seems wrong to me.

Seems silly that I have potentially 5.5GB at my disposal, the wife has 500MB, yet she could end up with just 250MB... ?

Hmmm, might have to call back and change the plan then.

Last thing I want is for the wife's phone to incur charges because the plan has failed us. She will use her 250 first, then the shared data - if there is any left?

 

OR, would it go that I use my 250, then my 5GB, before hitting the shared ? That would still work for us.

Such a shame we can't get this info more easily on the account pages.

Only just seen this answer... Yes, I did find out how to do Data Gifting and am using that method to let the wife have a bit extra each month. Rare she goes over 500Mb but I don't use anything like the 5.5Gb I have (+5 from having EE Broadband) so it's working OK like that. 

 

As I get a text reminder that the bill had bene made available I use that as my reminder to data gift.
