Best timeline to transfer out a 30 day sim?

I have a 30 day sim with a billing date of the 9th of each month.

I know I have to give 30 days notice and that a PAC has a validity of 30 days.

Do I need to give notice then wait to get a PAC, or does getting a PAC give notice?

If I have to give 30 days notice and the account is closed by EE on day 30 (as I believe it is) then when do I get the PAC as surely it must be used before the 30 days notice is up if I want to keep continuity of service with that number?

Is there a charge if I use the PAC before the 30 days notice has expired?

Do any of these timescales matter in relation to the billing date?

If only EE had a helpful help page that explained this...

You don't give 30 days notice to cancel AND get your PAC. It's 1 or t'other!

Either:

If you want to move it to another network, get your PAC & give it to other network. When they port your no. your EE contract is auto cancelled.

Otherwise if you just want to cancel your contract, give 30 days notice to EE.

Sorry, but that seems to be terrible advice.

My understanding is that if you obtain a PAC and use it without giving EE the 30 days notice then they will charge you the full 30 days following the transfer of your number and cancellation of the account.

So as before, I want to close my account and transfer my number, but how do you do that without incurring the 30 day penalty charge?

Generally, if you are outside of your minimum term, using a PAC will terminate the contract and you will not pay the notice period. OFCOM introduced this a while ago, banning providers from charging for notice periods when a PAC is used.

So you either give notice or request then use a PAC. You don't do both. Giving notice means you don't want to use a PAC and EE will just terminate the number in 30 days time.

If you request a PAC, you should get a text back with the early termination charge, which will either be £0 or not. That will be the way to confirm if you can use a PAC with no termination fee.

What you call a "30 day SIM" is really a monthly contract with a min. term of 30 days with a rolling notice period of 30 days. So providing you have already completed the 1st 30 days with it you may move your no. to another network using a PAC & you do not have give or pay 30 days notice from when your no. is ported to the other network.

Cuz you are using a PAC. It is OFCOM's rules that if you port your no. to another network & thereby auto cancel your contract the notice period is waived.

As I said a while ago, the easiest way to prove it one way or the other, is to request a PAC. You will get a text telling you if you have to pay anything, or not?

You don't have to use the PAC if you don't want to, but you'll get your definitive answer.
