Hello.

Does anyone know if a new SIM is automatically sent out when you upgrade to a new SIM only plan on EE? I think during previous SIM only upgrades I have just continued to use my old SIM.

However, on this occasion I have also bought a new handset directly from Apple which supports 5G. My previous handset was an iPhone XR which I have had since 2020 and does not support 5G. Due to this I’m not sure if my current SIM will allow me to access the 5G network. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello @Jonathan401 ,

Welcome to the community,

Your current SIM card should support 5G, no need for a new SIM card, but if it does not support 5G, then you can order a replacement SIM card, unless they send you one, which you do not need to activate unless you have no 5G with your original one.

All EE SIMs are multi-technology and support all RATs (or "G") from 2G through to 5G.

Some older SIMs don't support 5G-Standalone, and can only operate in NSA mode. This is very easily tested when you put your existing working SIM in a new phone, and your SIM can be replaced if necessary.
