Hi, my father has an old (very old!) orange SIM card that he is using in a Nokia phone. The problem is someone in his work gave him the sim about 20 years ago so the sim isn’t registered in his name and he’s not really sure what name it’s registered in. What options do we have for getting him a new upgraded sim? I tried to register online but obviously we don’t have the billing name so that hasn’t worked. Would we be better requesting the pac code and taking it to a new supplier? Thank you

Hi @Happygilmore15

Give EE a call on 150 and have a chat about your options. I assume your father is paying the bills.

Also if they transfer your service to EE keep the Orange SIM as it is a collectable now!

Thanks

Hi, thank you for your reply. It’s a pay as you go sim but yes he has been paying for the “top ups”.

Chances are it's probably unregistered, have EE confirmed?

Failing that, ssuming they have the verbal permission of the original owner no matter how old the permission is, I'd port out to Vodafone who don't require a top up and then port back in to EE on a new SIM in your fathers name in the same week.

You can follow the instructions below and receive the PAC in seconds on both network.

To request a Port Authorisation Code (PAC) via SMS, text "PAC" to your current mobile provider's short code, typically 65075, from the phone number you want to switch. Your provider should reply with your PAC code and information about any early termination fees.

You could request the PAC from EE using the above on Monday, set the port to Vodafone for Tuesday. Then request the PAC on Wednesday from Vodafone and set up the port back to EE on Thursday.

Bit complicated but would work.

To be honest I don’t think he can even remember the name of who the SIM card would be registered to - would he need all this info if he gets a pac code and takes it to a new supplier?

No info is required by SMS.

You can request the PAC following the instructions above and it’ll just send it through by SMS.
