As per the title, I’ve had my old number ported across from BT and I’ve checked it is actually being used by my phone (when I text someone) but ‘My number’ in settings still lists the new SIM card number. I’ve tried to change it and save it, but it always resets. Can this cause any problems?

Thanks

Have you tried rebooting your phone?

Can you receive calls OK?

If you make a call does it show your temp number or the number you ported to EE?

Hi Katie

When I phone or text my wife it shows my ported number and the same in reverse. I’ve rebooted the phone several times and tried to edit the number, without success. If it has no particular downside I guess it doesn’t matter. It’s just really annoying 🙂

Yes, this is the case. Your phone will report the number originally associated with the SIM, not the number you port in. As you say it doesn't really matter since the correct number shows when you call or text someone. Apparently the SIM-associated number can be changed using an iPhone, but since I use a Google Pixel I can't check it out.

Yes, I have an iPhone and although there is the facility to change the number, as soon as you save the changes it comes out of that page and the number remains as it was. I’ve done this in conjunction with the other advice regarding iMessage and FaceTime, but it makes no difference.

Oh well, unless and until it causes an issue I guess I’ll just let it be

Cheers

Hi, yes they’ve both been off for weeks now. I wondered if it might be because of the other devices in the house - I have an iPad and a MacBook. iMessage and Facetime are either off or I’m not logged in on these devices

Hi again Marcoee. I’ve sorted it! Steps I took:

1. Switch off iMessage and FaceTime (not sure if necessary) on all devices

2. Settings->General->Transfer or Reset device ->Reset->Reset Network Settings

3. Switch phone off and on again (at which point the correct (old, ported) number should finally be showing under Settings…Mobile Service…my number)

4. Switch iMessages and FaceTime back on. The correct phone number should now be listed.

No idea which of the above steps are necessary, but it worked for me. Good luck 🤞
