She's only tried to make calls at home and all I know is that it's a Nokia phone about 8 years old. She did mention that the back of her phone was slightly loose at the top. I'm guessing that the sim card is in the back of the phone rather than the side like the newer phones. Could it be that the sim card is slightly loose and not sitting properly? If that's the case would that affect calls and messaging?

Hi. My mum has a similar problem. She can't make or receive calls but can send and receive texts. When she makes a call it says she's dialled the wrong number, no matter who she phones, can't even call 150, and when someone calls her they say it's engaged but texts work fine. Could this also be a sim card problem?

Hi @Paul_68UK

Thanks for coming to the community.

There are a number of things that could be causing this to happen.

Has it been happening in one location or has she used the phone in different areas?

Which model of phone is she using?

Are you able to try her SIM in another phone and another SIM in her phone to see if the problem follows the SIM or the phone?

If the SIM doesn't have a clean seat, I would expect any phone to give a "no SIM" or "invalid SIM" type error message. Older phones commonly use "insert SIM"

It is the SIM which provides access to EE's network, thus without it a loss of network coverage is the natural result. The consequence of no coverage is an inability to make or receive calls, send or receive texts or use mobile data.
