I’ve upgraded to a new handset and it’s got the same number as my old one.

so far, so good.

I worked my way through the set up process but when I tried a test call it didn’t work and I noticed a message on the screen saying NO SIM.

Do I move the sim from my old phone? I sort of assumed it would all be ready to use.

please help a dimwit.

A replacement SIM is often supplied with upgrade phones incase, for whatever reason, there's a problem with your current SIM or it doesn't fit a new phone.

If your existing SIM is working and fits your new phone, there's no need to unnecessarily replace it.
