EE PayG 4G Wifi

Hope I'm in the relevant forum. If I run out of data on my EE PAYG sim in my 4G Wifi router, will it work with my Lyca phone sim, which uses the same network as EE?

If the router is unlocked you should be able to use any SIM card.

Could you try the SIM card in the router to see if this works?

Thanks for the response Leanne; the router is in my elderly Mum's house for the benefit of her carer, and I'm looking to pre-empt what might happen in advance of my next visit to see her! At which point I will hope to top it up, but may need a short term fix. It would be reassuring to know in advance that it will work!

You can check if the device is locked and request this to be unlocked if needed, using our Unlock EE Device to Use with Another Network, Help page. You would need the IMEI number for the router.

Aaah! I'll have a look. Although as far as I know my Lyca sim uses the EE network? So I won't need to unlock to use with another network? Thanks again, alfie

As this is a different network SIM card and not an EE SIM, we would advise to check the device is unlocked @alfie1953

As long as it's unlocked you may use any network's SIM in it. It will be if bought new after Dec. '21.

Ok, thanks, will do, although I'll obviously have to wait until I'm in situ to check the IMEI number. Am I wrong in thinking that my Lyca sim is using the EE network?

Aah, good news! It's a recent purchase, only bought 4 weeks ago, so should already be unlocked, if indeed it's necessary.

Yes, Ofcom forbade newly sold devices being locked from Dec. '21.
