The age of your SIM card shouldn't affect your call quality in any way.

SIM cards only tend to stop working if they are physically damaged.

I’m upgrading to a new iPhone that can use eSIMs - SIM only monthly…

So the question is, is it better to just transfer my nano SIM, almost 8 years old, or use the quick start to transfer to an eSIM?

While it seems more secure to transfer to an eSIM, this would mean if I need to go back to my old iPhone for some reason as a backup phone I couldn’t put the SIM back in it.

I then found that apparently using an old SIM, 3 to 5 years+, could cause mobile network issues either for 5G (which the new iPhone can use as my plan says ‘5G R’) or with data use, ‘cell routing’ or even voice quality?

Obviously the more you google the more contentious results seem to get, so I thought I’d see what folk think…

Thanks, good to know that should work…

Just wondered about hearing an old SIM, mines almost 8 years, can give issues including bad voice calls? This seemed odd to me but there are accounts of folk having to change SIMs for that reason.

As no one else has replied I guess this is not an issue, so will see how it goes…
