I have a SIM only account and an iphone SE. I would like to convert to an esim so that I may use a physical sim for a French account. Is this possible?

As long as your iPhone is Unlocked and is Dual Sim compatible , in your case Sim + eSim rather than Sim or eSim then Yes to your question.

Easiest way to determine if your Device is Dual Sim compatible is it will have 2 different IMEI Numbers for each Sim Position.
