PAYG number replacing current number

I want to replace my current contract SIM with my PAYG number - They are both EE but I prefer the PAYG number. Will I have to cancel the contract SIM and then change the PAYG sim to contract or can they simply be swapped and kept on the same contract plan?

Our Customer Care Team can switch your pay as you go number to your contract account if you get in touch on 150. Please note, your pay as you go account will be closed and your current pay monthly number will be lost.
