Advice re contracts/PAYG etc for a complete novice

Hopefully one or more of the wise sages on here will be able to give me some advice.

A bit of background... despite having used mobile phones for over a quarter of a century these have always been employer supplied or passed on from relations. Additionally I've never had a mobile signal at my rural location so haven't been too worried about smartphone use. A recently erected mast has made me consider getting into the 21st century and I'm considering my options with EE.

The new phone will be a dual nano sim/esim type. I intend starting totally afresh with a new mobile number etc. As I have no experience what the speed/quality of the signal from the mast will be, or of how much data allowance I'll need - I don't think it would be wise to enter into a 12 or 24 month contract straight away. So my thoughts are:

get a one of the FREE PAY AS YOU GO MOBILE SIM CARDS (shop.ee.co.uk/price-plans/free-sim?) with a brand new number and start afresh. The current deals are:

5GB Data Pack £10 - 500 Min Unlimited Texts
15GB Data Pack £15 - Unlimited Min Unlimited Texts
70GB Data Pack £20 - Unlimited Min Unlimited Texts
100GB Data Pack £30 - Unlimited Min Unlimited Texts

Then after a month totally move onto a contract which will best serve my needs and utilise the esim facility on the phone. The question is whether I would now be considered to be an EE customer and as such not entitled to new contract offers that I currently have access to as a BT broadband customer or possibly even stopped from taking a contract offer directly from EE.

Any advice or thoughts regarding the above would be much appreciated.

As an only PAYG cust you will be considered a new cust when ordering a contract SIM. Don't login to MyEE before going to online shop.

thanks for the reply xrayspex - good to hear that my plan isn't a non starter. I do feel that there's a lot of 'smoke and mirrors' when dealing with most of the provider companies,

If anyone has any other thoughts on this I'd love to hear from you
