Esim Activation while outside UK

I want to activate an esim while aboard
However i do not have my physical sim card. (it was lost)

However, I need a working EE mobile number to receive the security code.

Question can EE activate the esim if I phone the EE support.
I have the IMEI number and I'm on a monthly contract.

unfortunately any sim activation physical or esim needs to be activated in the U.K. first.

Will this work?

Send a new SIM to my UK address
Get my UK based friend to place the new sim in their phone
Then I can use the EE app, while aboard, to start the Esim activation
My friend receives the code and sends it to me

(Maybe I need a VPN to trick the EE app I'm in the UK)

@BryanUK the esim needs to connect EE's U.K. network it can't be activated while roaming.
