Transfer eSim whilst abroad

Hi,

I currently have an EE eSim in my iPhone 12 and I’m considering upgrading to an iPhone 14 whilst on holiday in September after launch.

I was wondering whether anyone is aware on whether it’s possible to transfer an eSim to a new iPhone abroad? I can’t get any clarity online!

Welcome to the EE Community,

the initial activation of the esim would need to be done on EE's network it cant be done while roaming.

@n1cbr Never do something like this when not connected to the EE network if it doesn’t work you’ll be left with a device you can not use until your back within the UK. If you got your eSim swapped back to a physical Sim card then that would be different and you just put the new sim in the new device. If you then want an eSim you’ll have to wait till your back in the UK.

Ok thanks. So if I get a physical sim that should be okay and it would work in a new phone?

Thanks for coming here 🙂

If your old SIM card fits you can continue to use this with no new SIM card needed.

If you do register the new SIM if you receive one with the upgrade, please register the SIM whilst in the UK on the EE network.

@n1cbr ,if you want the physical SIM card, make sure you do this here in the UK and insert it in your phone before going abroad, then yes, this should work ok.

Thanks all, that’s really helpful. I’ll arrange to get a new SIM before I travel then so that it should all work fine!
