Received new phone via upgrade but the sim doesn't work

So i finally decided to upgrade from the ancient phone i was using. I received the new phone and new sim today and did as i was asked to by doing the sim swap and activation. The new sim just shows nothing but zeroes as it's number and i get no signal. The old phone get's no signal either now and it's so old (still has the Orange branding on the sim) that it's sim card is not compatible with the new phone.
