So, moving abroad for a while but wanted to keep my number so rang up asking to switch my Pay Monthly to PAYG the day before leaving, was told would be changed on June 30th, no confirmation email sent though.

They didn't switch it until July 2nd when I was already in Europe.

Then all international calls blocked and after about 3 hours on LiveChat with people resetting stuff they came to the conclusion that because I hadn't used it in the UK first I wouldn't be able to use it abroad. This was never mentioned when I changed the contract even though I explained clearly WHY I was changing to PAYG, the guy today even said "Could you go back to UK to activate it....".

So really just properly p*ssed off with EE and look forward to leaving them when I do next go back to the UK

Just a warning to anyone else leaving the UK and wanting to keep their number, wish my partner had known as she asked for the same date and they didn't switch it off until yesterday!

If you requested to switch to PAYG it’s done within 24 hours. Usually.

it’s never been possible to switch from contract to PAYG when outside the UK.

I was out of contract, I chose that date as knew leaving the next day. I don't know why it then took an extra 2 days and as I had no confirmation email or text after arranging it I couldn't call to change it.

Just really annoyed especially as the response has been along the lines of "tough"

@kernowkrew , why did you not make sure before leaving the UK, that you were on pay as you go before leaving and use it , as it has to be activated and used before going abroad, this would have been down to you to make sure that it would work, nothing can be done now, unless you have someone in the UK and you can send the SIM card to them to activate and use and then send back to you, so you are able to use it.

Because, as I mentioned above, I told the guy why I was leaving and asked to be switched over on June 30th. Not only did he not mention that you had to use it in the UK (which I would have done anyway) but it was then switched over 2 days later than I was told it would be.

As mentioned what's really annoying is the way it's then shrugged off, hence why I'll leave as numbers are the only thing these companies care about!
