US phone, UK SIM, not able to text or call

It did set up a new, local phone number with the SIM. Texts and calls to and from the US are not working. What am I doing wrong?

@thekarenguerra , I take it your US phone is unlocked to use a UK SIM card. Are you in the UK?

Are you on pay as you go or contract? Where did you get the SIM card from and how long ago? It may need activating.

Is it on contract or PAYG? On PAYG calling or texting to US numbers is not included in your pack allowances. So you need to pay for them out of your PAYG credit. Do you have enough credit to to pay for them?

How do I know if it is a contract? I signed up for the 100GB with recurring payment. It is an unlocked phone and I purchased the SIM at a gas station.

It sounds like the SIM could be a pay as you go SIM card rather than contract. If you text BALANCE to 150, what does it say?

My question is why can I receive US texts but not send them?

It is adding +44 or 011(US number) to my contacts when I send them, but when I receive, it is just +1

You need to have available credit as well, as your unlimited texts and calls is UK only and doesn't include any international texts

@MoxxaSec is spot on here. The pay as you go pack includes calls and texts to UK mobiles and landlines. If you're calling abroad, you will need to top up more credit to add an add-on for calling abroad, or pay per minute.
