Welcome to the Community, @GL611

Unless there's been a slight model revision, I believe there should be a Nano SIM slot on the side of the watch, but you may need to remove the rubber bumper to insert this.

Once you've sorted that, all setup is completed from the Xplora app via your phone, and part way through this it will ask for the number associated with the new SIM.

From what I understand, the Xplora watches are designed to have their own number and work as a standalone device, rather than share connection with an existing smartphone like most Apple Watches etc.

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Xplora X6 Play (eSim) Watch from EE in addition we were also sent a nano SIM card for the contract that we have signed him up on - this was us preparing our child to having a phone with a contract (he does have an old iPhone that he uses at home but wifi only and no contract.

This could be a stupid question:

As the watch is eSim only, do I insert the SIM card into my child's phone then download the app and connect the watch via the Xplora app, or should we have received the watch that has a SIM card slot and works independently?

Looking for advice and best next steps.

Thanks in advance,

Grant

Thanks Peter.

Yes, that's the one - the watch is supposed to work with their own number.

I have taken an image of the watch and where the sim should go - it appears to have a blank with no way in how to remove it.

I am now beginning to feel like my real age when it comes to new hardware (and this is for kids, haha).

Thanks for checking that, on research it does look like both eSIM and Nano SIM versions are available.

Does it explicitly say it's the eSIM version on the packaging?

If that's the case then you would usually need to scan a QR code at the point of setup, and if this hasn't been supplied you'll need to request a new one from our team.

You can give us a call where this will be sent via post, or alternatively you can also request a new eSIM free of charge in one of our retail stores.

You'll just need to know the number linked with the watch SIM, and have a valid passport or UK driving licence.

Hi Peter

Thanks for the message and this confirms what solution we arrived at during my call with one of the tech team yesterday. The packaging did say eSIM and where the confusion started was no eSIM QR code within the box - only a standard sim promo pack.

As the local store is a considerable distance away (and an absolute hassle to get to with city rules) then I’ll buzz the team today on 150.

Thanks so much again. Fingers crossed all will be sorted soon.
