Unlocking old phone incorrect NP

My dad has had a Pictor 2.4 phone for about 7 years and only got it to use the odd occasion whilst on his motorbike to be contacted in an emergency.

he hasn’t had it used it for a few years but we have got a new sim on a different network and want to unlock this one.

I have put the IMEI code in online and it gave me a 8 digit code to put it on the phone. When I turn the phone on it asks for an NP code code so I entered the one I was given but it keeps saying incorrect. Why? What am I doing wrong? I don’t want to end up locking it completely by inputting the ‘wrong’ code.
