Avoiding being locked out of gmail while abroad

Hi, I'm going abroad soon and will be at numerous locations. I'm worried I may be locked out of my gmail.

I have 2 gmail accounts. There's one for my phone and all the apps. Then I have another which I log into through a browser. I need access to both. This is what's probably causing the problems; I guess the algo will wonder why there's 2 gmail accounts to one device.

When I was away last year I'd buy a new sim for each new place I travelled to. It seemed that when I logged in to my 2nd gmail (browser) through the sim there was no problem. However, when I tried to do so through a new Wifi location, it would not let me log in and required extra authentication.

I leave soon and need to have this figured out. I'm an EE customer and I'm trying to avoid using my EE sim abroad for obvious reasons. Cheers.

I'm not sure what you're asking - are you querying how you can access your G-Mail account using different devices? Or how you can receive OTPs whilst roaming?

If the latter, receiving text messages is free anywhere in the world - but you need to have roaming enabled in order to connect to local networks in foreign countries.

Thanks, didn't know about the one time passcodes.

However, won't just turning my sim on in a foreign country automatically charge fees?

Enabling roaming, and connecting to foreign networks, incurs no charge.

Making or receiving calls, using mobile data or sending text messages - would be chargeable.

You may have any no. of GMail a/c's on any no. of devices. There's nowt to wonder about. It will ask for auth when it appears you are logging in from somewhere different, i.e a diff browser or a mobile app on a diff network. It's not WiFi but a mobile network.

OK, I just need to clarify. I've turned roaming on.

I arrive in X country.

I'm in the airport and want to access my gmail using airport WIFI.

Google will automatically require me to enter passcode sent to my phone so I can login to gmail on phone. Correct?

Hi @EEplusNet,

Yes, if roaming is activated you'll be able to receive your passcode.

A simpler solution would be to add your other Google account to your phone.

This Google support article explains more about using more than one Google account at once.
