Potential scam

Text received from 07753804038 ' Hi MUm I dropped my phone - please Whats App 07887442693'

Then messages saying kitchen refurb costing lot of money. Suspicious asked for date of birth to confirm speaking to my son.. No positive response.

Later established my son had not lost his phone. Curious as to how my number had been used - could it be random?

Suspect that if I had carried on with conversation I would have been asked to send money to help with kitchen costs!

Any thoughts?
