Hi @Shadowofdeth,

Sorry, it's impossible to say how the spammers got your number. The messages are usually sent in huge volumes by computerised systems so they may have even hit on your number randomly.

Text scam: Payment/Direct Debit failure message

There are several versions of scam text messages circulating at the moment. We wanted to let you see examples of what these may look like so that you can keep your details safe.

The messages advise that either a payment has failed, a direct debit has failed or that your profile needs to be updated to prevent payment failure. Remember to never log into your account via a link in a message, always log into your account directly.

These messages are fake and have not come from EE, here are some examples of what they can look like.

If you've received one of these messages, or something similar, don't worry. Receiving a suspicious text, email or voice call won't harm you – harm can only come if you interact with it

Just remember these important tips:

Don’t click on links unless you’re 100% sure they are genuine

Take a moment to stop and think and trust your instincts. If it looks too good to be true or looks suspicious, it probably is

Don’t give any of your personal details or give anyone access to your computer – if you think you might have provided your bank account details, contact your bank immediately

For more information on how to stay safe online and report these message take a look at our Spam and phishing article.

In order to avoid late payment fees, update your billing information via [web address using https:// beginning and 'ee-billingvalidate' within url]

- bill has already been taken, not the usual number ee send messages from, nor does the url follow the same structure as official ee websites so did not trust.

I received a text from this number: +44 7983 909377, saying the following:

EE: We have been unable to verify the details we have on your EE account. Please login at [mod edit: removed to ensure safety] to verify your data.
oddly enough my plan had ran out today, so it could have seemed like I just needed to top up my phone. Luckily, I’ve received these kind of texts before and knew it was a scam straight away. Don’t click on these links. You’re better off login in on your normal browser and checking your account there.

stay safe everyone

@ana99 : Yes, It's a scam! There are many of these going the rounds. EE would never send you a msg asking you to click on a link in order to update your a/c.

Report it to your network provider by forwarding the text to 7726 (S.P.A.M. on your keypad).

That domain, faked to look like EE, was only created yesterday in USA. Browsers are already warning it's dangerous.
