Urgent Request to recategorize CoupleInApp.com — miscategorized as dating/18

I'm an EE customer and the founder of CoupleInApp.com.

I'm writing to request recategorization of my website and app. It is currently being caught by parental controls and 18+ locks, which is preventing legitimate users from accessing it.

CoupleInApp helps couples to stop arguing in 5 minutes or less. It is not a dating website, tt is a social and lifestyle relationship-wellbeing website and mobile app. It does not help people find a partner, and it has no feature for meeting, matching, or communicating with potential suitors in any way. Its purpose is to help people in existing relationships communicate better with their partner, for example, storing the things their loved one likes so they can do more of them.

It sits in the same category as apps like Between, Paired (paired.com), and Couple Joy — none of which are subject to these locks. My app is being treated differently despite offering the same type of content.

This is happening specifically on the EE network. I have already spoken to EE, including Emily and Will from their team, who confirmed the site looks fine and advised me to email you, and that it should be resolved within a few days. I have also shared the details to the email indicated on the website - safeguard@ee.co.uk but I am yet to receive a fix nor response.

Could you please review CoupleInApp.com and recategorize it appropriately (e.g. as lifestyle / relationships rather than dating or adult content)?

It looks adult to me & its Terms of Service state:

2. Eligibility
You must be at least 17 years old to use the App. By using CoupleIn you confirm you meet this age requirement and that you can form a legally binding contract in your country of residence.

As 17 year-olds cannot form a legally binding contract in UK this is a 18+ year-old site. Indeed EE are helping you to meet your Terms of Service.

This public user discussion forum cannot review your site & have no hand in its categorisation.

that is not the case, we are being affected by apolicy is for dating app, because apps to find partner are legally required to be over 18. This is an app for already existing couples to navigate relationships and does not discuss adult themes. Our preference is over 17+ because they have the maturity to navigate these issues.

Calendar, Communication styles and solving arguements.

That does not mean the app and website should be gated behind the lock. unless EE is willing to do the same to all other wellness apps like:

It is a very clear miscategorisation because Talos Cisco initially did the same and they immediately fixed this as soon as they received my email. I hope EE is prompt in resolving the matter. It's either we are all treated the same or there is a very unfair approach to smaller companies.

I understand, I omitted an important detail, every app in the same space has a +17 usage selection. This is the only one blocked by EE.

I am not debating your policies. Just asking for discretion to be applied the same way for apps/website of the same kind.

But does every such site require the ability to form a legally binding contract? That alone makes them 18+ sites.

No, they are even stricter than mine.

Paired.com: users confirm they are over the age of 17 and legally able to enter into a binding agreement, but the services are stated as not directed to anyone under 18, with under-18s told not to use the service.

At this point it could not be clearer.

I have even seen actual dating apps been whitelisted.

At this point, there is a general miscategorization issue. Talos Cisco sorted it in 1h. EE over 1 week no response.

This would ve less frustrating if I was not an actual customer of EE.

Welcome to the community.

You can check what's allowed on the strict and moderate settings at How do I turn on/off parental controls on mobiles.

In the mean time, I've passed this on to our categorisation team to have a look. However, as @XRaySpeX mentioned, if the site is restricted to 17+, it would naturally be excluded from moderate and strict access.
