Welcome to the Community, @TWKOM

As @Chris_B has mentioned here, gift hampers aren't something we're known to offer, and the £30 fee to secure it definitely sounds suspicious.

You've made the right call in changing your password, but for additional security I would also recommend giving our team a call so we can make sure there hasn't been any further access attempts or unusual activity.

They'll be able to add notes and update the password at our end for additional security, too.

Finally if you haven't already, I'd recommend reporting this call out our security team via our form here:

Report a scam call | BT Help

Peter

I got a call this morning 02080761103 claiming it was EE. I'm always aware of potential scammers, but since I just signed up with EE on Friday and got a call today claiming to be EE, I thought it might be legit.
Initially I was hesitant, but they had details about my account that I think only EE would have (they new my tarrif).
However, at one point in the call there was some confusion about my old physical O2 SIM which I'm still using, and my new EE eSIM with EE, specifically around the number transferring over. During this, the caller had to keep sending me authentication codes which I read back to her. This is the part that concerns me.

At the end, she was talking about a gift hamper and wanted 30 quid to secure it. Now I know never to give out bank details over the phone, so I declined. But I'm worried that all the shenanigans with the authentication codes was her trying to get into my account.

I've got back to my desk and have logged into my account and reset my password.

So was this an attempted scam, or legitimately EE? The emails coming through genuinely look legit.

@TWKOM Sounds like a scam to me. EE don’t give gift hampers and asking for £30 upfront is a big red flag. You’ve done the right thing in changing your password. The passcode is to gain access to your EE account as that’s part of the 2 step verification. They were trying to access your EE account and needed that code that was legitimately sent from EE as they were trying to get into your account.
