Has my mobile number been cloned?

I have received some phone calls from people claiming that they have had missed calls from my number. However I don’t know these people and I haven’t called them from my phone. There is also no outgoing calls to these numbers on my phone.
When I looked up how this might have happened mobile number cloning was the first subject that came up.

Can anyone from EE shed any light on this as I want to make sure I’m secure and my details are safe.

@HP711 your number or Sim card has not been cloned somebody spoofing your number to make look it look like you’ve called these numbers. Hopefully they’ll get bored of it and move on. Alternatively you could request EE change your phone number.

Hi @HP711

To add to @Chris_B comments. This used to be an EE network issue of the past. Occasionally phantom missed called appear. It used to happen more after using WiFi calling. (It has happened to me in the past).

Try restarting your device.

Sharing the attached feedback from EE regarding the same issue I am having. Hope people find it useful. 15 missed calls off people I don’t know today.

I'm having the exact same thing at the moment. Getting around 5 a week from random numbers saying I've rang them. I asked the latest one today what time I called and the number. It was definitely my number I hadn't made the call. After researching it looks like scammers are using cloning my number. Hopefully it stops soon as per the advice you were given. Have yours stopped and how long did it go on for? Prety annoying that we can't stop them, and I don't want to change my number.

I have this issue at the moment. I called EE. Feel a bit fobbed off. They told me to reset my network settings.

Thanks for taking the time to highlight your experience here, @De90.

From my experience the numbers being used by call spoofers change regularly, but I can totally appreciate your concern whilst it's still happening.

If worst comes to worst we could look into changing your number, but fingers crossed that won't be needed.

For everyone's info, it is trivially easy for any VOIP system (ie the vast majority of phone systems out there now) to use whatever outgoing callerID they choose. On self-managed systems there are no controls over what gets used. Hosted VOIP will generally require proof of ownership, or at least they should.
