was i scammed

i had a call from 0191 429 7590. it came up saying it was EE from Newcastle. he sent me a pin which came from EE.

was it a scam please?

What was the call regarding? What did the caller say, or want to discuss? Did you give the caller the OTP/PIN that you received?

I had a call from the same number 0191 429 7590, asking me to screen share so that they could show me some loyalty offers. When I said I suspected a scam they got quite persistent.

Although I thought the call was probably genuine their persistence led to me terminating the call.

I then rang EE to ask if call was genuine and they couldn't tell me, just asked me to block the number and report to their fraud department.

I don't see that number on the link provided,https://ee.co.uk/help/profile/manage/phone-calls-from-our-partners. or any others beginning 0191.

When you check our Numbers that EE partners will call you from page, you can click the tab that says "Inspired" which has the number listed that you received a call from.

Ok thanks, I hadn't initially realised that there were hidden phone numbers
on the link list, that only show when you click on the word 'inspired'.
Will teach me to read the advice carefully rather than quickly scanning!

Given that the number was genuine, then why couldn't EE verify it when I
rang to check?

The caller told me that nobody had ever questioned the veracity of the call
before... exactly what a scammed would say! He got annoyed at my hesitancy
which didn't seem the most professional response.

Customer Service should be able to see the page that is linked above, so I'd have assumed they would have checked that for you.

It's one query I can get fed back, as we'd like all our staff to be reassuring and confident with the information they give.
Sorry for any confusion this had caused.

I'm glad you've been able to find this was a genuine call, albeit not how you'd have expected it to be.

I had the same call , I told them I wasn't interested . They sound super suspicious. It's always best to just say no to any promotional phone calls ( when they're trying to sell you deals).

I had the exact same call, and when I called EE they said they have no record of anyone calling me. So yeah, I call scam

What genius at EE thought that sales approach was ok ?

1.) Most IT/Scam literate people will conclude its a scam and terminate the call.

2.) Older people who believe it to be genuine and allow the screenshare then may be tempted to do so with an actual scammer.

This really is not OK neither is it an acceptable sales pitch. Im actually disappointed in EE that they would do this to be quite frank. Does EE not carry out any internal security training with staff ? does no one see the issue here ? im actually genuinely disappointed.

0191 429 7590 This number called me today about some offers and also he could see the account that I have with EE and for how long as well, he could access my address and everything, he sent me a code via text message from EE on the same way that I receive notifications from them. Could have been a scam? What can they do with the information that they take from my EE account? I changed my password straight away on the account but now I am getting worried as I think it might have been scam.

The number in your post belongs to Inspired, one of our official sales partners, so the call was not a scam and you don't need to worry about your account info being secure off the back of that.
