Text claiming to be EE

My daughter received a text this morning from 07396702726 claiming to be EE and advising the bill had not been paid ‘click this link to update payment details’. It appeared to be an ee.co.uk web address but instead of clicking the link I checked the app and it said the bill for both her phone and mine had been paid so I deleted the text off her phone assuming it’s spam.

Is anyone able to confirm if 07396702726 is legit or scam please?

Any text or email asking you to "click here to update details" is an instant red-flag, that's classic phishing. Further, if you'd checked your account and established bill paid, you've disproven the text's advice immediately.

Ideally you should have forwarded the text, free, to 7726 (SPAM on your phone's keypad).

I've fallen for a phishing scam an hour ago, I've given up my name, home address, dob, mobile number and email address... Well done me 😞

It was an EE text stating that I had missed a payment (I've recently lost my bank card and had a replacement - new number issued) This is the 7th time I've had to update payment details with other companies, however on closer inspection this clearly wasn't legit.

I've contacted my bank, created an account with Cifax, placed 2FA on everything I could think of that was important.

However, there is NO easy way to speak with EE to report the problem, its incredibly frustrating, I've even tried to download the EE app and link it to my physical sim card so that I can confirm that payments are ok, however the app hasn't brought forward my details, contract or payment history so I cant confirm... There's no information in it at all!

Is there a proper number I can call for this??

I just get bounced around smart telephone exchanges, sometimes it would be nice to speak to a real person 😞

Welcome to the community.

I can understand your concern at wanting to get your account secure.

You've done the right thing in what you've mentioned up to now, but it would be best to speak to our team to make sure your account is secure.

You'd need to use the numbers on our contact us page, and you can choose option 1 to use our digital IVR, which gives you the options in a text, or you can choose option 2 to use the standard options. The best people would be to speak to our billing guides from the options.

If you still have the text you received as well, it is worth forwarding it to 7726 to report it as a spam message.

I’ve just had this from +44 7486 077542 - was also called by them this week. Reported and blocked. Clearly EE customers are being targeted!

You can report the call to be investigated at Report a scam call | Help
You can also check if a call is genuine and from us on our How Do We Contact You page.
Or if the call was from our Direct Partners at Phone numbers EE partners will call from page.

If you'd like our phishing team to get the text that you received investigated, just open the text message you wish to report and forward it to 7726.
If you're concerned about unsolicited contact from other companies, you can visit How to avoid and prevent scams including phishing, vishing and smishing for hints on how to block and prevent these.

Texts from +447303196817 are a scam, they say EE account is on hold because they can't take payment with a link to click on.

Number has been forwarded to 7726

Thank you for taking the time to feed back the message that you received to our phishing team.

Now you've sent the message, I'd recommend deleting it from your phone.

If you reply STOP to these texts, they know that the phone is active and may forward your number to another marketing company for them to contact you regarding another service.

Got the same thing myself

guessed it was a scam as Im sure EE would let you know if there really was a problem and not send a text message
