I just received a call from a Southampton number (023 8244 2991) claiming I would be receiving a new SIM card tomorrow due to the EE/BT merger. They said they would transfer me to another department, but I hung up, assuming it was a scam. Can you confirm that it is?

I just got that same call, from a similar number. Searched online for something about an EE/BT merger and found nothing but talk of a scam. Mentioned I looked online, and they immediately changed tone. "This is not a promotion!" So I just hung up.

Looks like EE only contacts us using 0845 numbers. I'll remember that from now on.

It really sucks that any call I get from someone with an Indian-like accent, I immediately get scam vibes from, just because I know it's such a big thing in that part of the world and it very often is a scam, I've learned from scambaiter channels. I feel dirty reacting that way, but it's only when it's an unknown caller on the phone, not out in the real world. It just sucks that these scammers have basically tainted the reputation of anyone with that accent. I hate this whole situation...

Some of EE's outbound partners may also contact customers on occasion from other numbers, these can be found here:

https://ee.co.uk/help/profile/manage/phone-calls-from-our-partners

Ah thank you. It was 020 3584 2599, so not legit.

I’ll probably add all the legit numbers to my contacts so I can easily know if it’s a scam or not. That could be a good thing to provide customers somehow, for peace of mind.

By the way, every time I try to write a comment on here about 20 seconds in a pop up interrupts and says do I want to take a survey? Like, no! You know I’m typing right this second! Maybe fix that?

And @Matt_124 is a customer just like you so can not fix anything. Once you hit the No on would you like to take a survey, it shouldn’t pop up again. It will however pop up every time you log back in to the forum.
