From an EE mobile 150 is a direct line to EE. Nobody can listen any more than any other call.

Family member received this text message from ‘MyEE’. It it doesn’t make any sense. Apparently EE don’t deal in 6 digit pins anyway. So what’s the angle?

BE ALERT TO FRAUD**

Nobody from EE will ever ask you for this PIN. Your One Time PIN is 392218. If somebody asks you for the PIN please end the call, as they don't work for EE. If you didn't ask for a PIN, call us straight away on 150 so we can protect your account.

MyEE does use 6 digit PINs. I have had a few before.

It could be someone trying to login or resetting their password and mistyping their number, they get yours so it sends a PIN to reset it, they think EE haven't sent it, try again, but put in the right number the 2nd time.

Or someone is trying to gain access to your account. If you think that's likely, ensure you have a secure password, don't answer calls from unknown numbers, and be on the lookout for anything suspicious. If it keeps happening, may be worth contacting EE and asking them to check what's going on.

Thanks, Would it be safe for my family member to call 150 then, as in if it was a scam would they be able to listen in?

Calling 150 should be fine, only people near them could listen in t one half of the conversation. It's always good to be aware of your surroundings if you are revealing personal info on the phone though.
