Strange phone call from EE.. anyone's here experienced?

Hello, someone name Charles called me and asking me for some questions. He speak very fast and I can't catch up..

So I asked him to repeat again then he told me , he the signal break down. Later, I receive an texts from him say;

Hello,
Its Charles from EE Apoligies that I couldn't get hold of you.
We will try again another time.

This number is showing as Step Change who is one of our Direct Partners, you can view numbers our selected partners will call you from to talk to you about additional products and services, in our What numbers will EE partners call from? Help page.

If you get a call and from a number not listed, please text CALL followed by the number to 7726 and our security team will get this looked into.

I received a call from this number today. The line was bad and at first I assumed it was spam. The guy asked me security questions even though he'd called me! He asked me why I was still on pay as you go – I felt like I was being interrogated, the tone was completely wrong. I said I was fine with the package I currently have and to call me again in a few months. He said he'd call tomorrow at a better time. The whole thing was just so unprofessional!

I keep getting calls also trying to move me to a contract to the point I am considering changing providers as the incessant badgering to change from pay as you go is infuriating.

I asked multiple times to be taking off call lists as I was not interested in changing from PAYG to a contract and was told that couldn't be done and I would continue to receive calls every few months.

It happened to me today.

I am a pay as you go customer.

the man called me and interrogated me and placed me on 24 month contract without my permission.
I just saw a confirmation via email saying that i am on a new contract with EE for 24 months.

I want it to be cancelled immediately. He didn’t take no for answer and this is unacceptable bad unprofessional.

You have a 14 day cooling off period if you decide you'd rather stay on pay as you go.

@James_B regardless as customer has 14 days cooling off period, what @Faduma245 described is completely UNACCEPTABLE and your reply should be, as EE, as operator will INVESTIGATE such thing.

As Your approved partners signing customers to contract, even they say NO is not only unetical, but illegal.

As customer provide security questions, with no intentions to approve any changes, just to continue with phone call, is not at any mean consent to make any changes!

If any changes was made, you should not put onus on customer, but ACTIVELY make sure, as these was made as per his liing, or reversed.

I do recommend anyone, simply not speak with cowboys who cold called you, and immediatelly call 150 and ask to be removed from any marketing calls. If these continue, report each and every as spam as above...

I understand your concerns and we have a number of steps in place to prevent any unauthorised orders being placed.

As part of the ordering process, the sales advisor has to take a customer through a credit and identity check (for which the customer has to provide the required information), and send them a link to accept the terms and conditions of the plan online.

As with all distance sales, we have a 14 day cooling off period if a customer changes their mind after the call.

The returns form includes a a text box where the customer can share the reason for return and raise any concerns.

@Faduma245 : Why did you provide the caller with your bank a/c or card details? When asked for them didn't that raise the red flag with you?

I've noticed that since coming to EE I get a lot more spam callers. Calls from automated services in what sounds like Chinese and also people claiming to be from EE. Is it coincidental that my wife and son have found the same? Do EE sell lists of customer numbers or is somebody at EE breaching DP?

I also had a phone call from an Asian lady claiming to be EE offering me an amazing deal with upgrade I was loath to give her any info but she asked me to confirm my email address then I was contacted by EE with 2 verification codes that she asked me for ,she could confirm my address details she knew my phone numbers and how much I paid and from which bank account , she then said that she needed £30 security deposit which I foolishly gave her but the payment didn’t go through and is still pending from my account, I was going on holiday the day after so she said she would call me when back in a weeks time. I called 150 and spoke to someone in upgrades who said it was a scam and couldn’t offer me the same deal.. today she rang me back but I hung up on her the number she called me on was a London number 020 337 7731

Thank you for posting about this. Did you speak to your bank to let them know what had happened? Did the payment eventually go through? I recommend following the advice on our Online Security: Avoid and Prevent Scams help page:

Report scam calls directly to us. Your report is sent to our partner Hiya, who will use the your feedback to improve call protection in the future.
Send a text message (including phone number or company name) to 7726, free of charge, so your mobile phone provider can investigate
