I can confirm this is direct partner of EE, the company is called Interact.

If you have not yet received your SIM I would recommend getting in touch so our customer care team can chase this for you.

Ordering a Sim experience...

Last weekend I ordered a standalone data sim. It's not arrived as yet. Checking the order number on the EE site just gives a vague 'we can't check but will be in touch' platitude.

However, this week I've had calls from a number 01942 901395. Apparently this is an official partner company to EE (not that I knew that when I answered the call).

They asked me to confirm my details over the phone - I refused to do so. I did not recognise the number, and - as there are so many scams around - felt it was unwise to go giving out details.

The person on the phone said they're a partner company who have 'full access' to EE's system and were calling regarding my ordering of the sim.

Now, this is a stand-alone sim. It's bought and paid for. What is there to call me about?

Of course, as I refused to give my details, they wouldn't tell me what the issue was... of course, the way I see it, I've bought a sim via the EE website, and had an order confirmation. The money went out of my account - therefore no problems my end.

So what gives? Are EE just handing numbers and personal details out to third parties? If so, why?

They have my phone number, they have my email, they've received my order. If there were issues, then they could have emailed, texted, etc.

To have what is an unknown number call from a third party business that then requires you to do homework to check whether they are legitimate is just weird.

Anyone else had this experience?

In this climate of scammers, cold callers and spoofed telephone numbers, it seems absolutely incredible to me that EE would expect a customer to have to do research on whether a third party cold caller is legitimate or not.

"outbound sales teams will always know your details" but of course, they ask you to confirm them. So there's actually no way to know if they do genuinely know them because they can't tell you unless you confirm them. This really is a bit of a 'how to' guide on scamming your customers.

In fact, on one of the scam avoidance pages on BT it says "We will never ask for your personal information such as account details and passwords."

Can you see the issue here?

The bottom line is - I ordered a SIM and it hasn't arrived. It doesn't take a third party company to deal with that, surely?

Yes exactly the same happened to me today from 01942 901395. I refused to confirm my personal details. They knew Id been browsing sim only offers on the EE website though weren't aware I'd actually purchased one last week. Not impressed. Will phone EE themselves to find out where my SIM is up to.

Just confirming I got the same call - my EE phone actually flagged the call as suspicious/spam. The guy sounded flustered and wasn't speaking clearly, and his opening gambit was I needed to go through a credit check in order to get a SIM upgrade I'd already qualified for and received. I put the phone down on him, rang EE on 150, who told me they had no record of me needing a credit check, have no record on their system of me being called or needing a call. This may well be an agency EE are using to 'upsell' or something similar, but the experience as a customer is terrible. It runs counter to all the scam avoidance training you receive. Sort it out!

Welcome to the community.

You are right to be wary of a call like that. From what you have said, it does sound like a scam call.

If you do receive any calls from one of our partners, you can check if it is a genuine call on our Direct Partners page.

If it isn't listed, you can report a scam call online to us.
