Thanks JimM11 I will keep an eye on things. The old BT Hub let us name connected devices which was handy but the new EE doesn't seem to let you which is a step backwards. I am having some issues with my BT Alexa House Phone not letting me play with the ringtone for some weird reason. I'm not sure if related to the upgrade of the network or if it was like it before as it was some time ago now when I last set it up. For some reason, I am getting an error saying ringing not currently available If I got into the phone settings and sounds the only way I used ot be able to change this was by clicking the ringing option and then set the ringtone and volume but both have vanished and just getting this error now. This upgrade has been a nightmare.

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie here and I really hope someone can help.

Today after many years of waiting we finally got FTTP from EE after switching from FTTC with BT previously. On my old setup, I had the BT Smart Hub 2 as the modem and had my TP-Link Deco XE75 Pro plugged into an ethernet port and it provided the same speed as I got through the BT router through the TP-Link Mesh. Today however we had the EE router installed and I thought it would be a simple job of switching the ethernet wires over from the old BT Hub to the New EE Hub but upon doing this I seem to have lost a ton of the speed.

If I connect my PC to the new EE Hub (WiFi or Wired) I am getting close to 900mbps download and over 100mbps upload but if I connect my computer to the TP-Link Deco system which is plugged into the EE router via ethernet I am getting less than 50mbps download and about 15mbps upload. I have some other brands of routers (Netgear and TP-Link) which I have used in the past. If I plug them into the EE Hub I get the same slow speeds. I thought maybe the EE Hub was faulty so I thought I would try the old BT Hub and see if that would even connect which it connected fine with high speeds but again the same issue of less than 50mbps to the connected mesh I use r any of the other routers I try.

I have tried connecting the WAN cable directly from the ONT to the Deco but it doesn't connect so this won't work. I've tried numerous different ethernet cables including CAT8 but none work. If I turn the EE Hub off and the Deco off then both back on for a very short time there is good speed but it then drops down to less than 50 again. I have no idea what to do but it just doesn't work like it did before and I'm not aware of a reason why.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

PS. I wish to use the Deco mesh because it works better in my home and has extra security features for my family which is why I need to be able to get this working somehow. The EE mesh doesn't seem very good and I had lots of trouble connecting one WiFi Plus to the EE Hub.

Hi Mustrum,

I have the TP-Link Deco XE75Pro which is my main mesh network. I do also have some other routers which I've also tested to try and rule out it being the TP-Link Deco at fault. I have a TP-Link Archer Air R5 with the same issue and I have also tested a Netgear RS300 WiFi 7 router also an old Netgear R6120. I have some Netgear Orbi somewhere which I am thinking of also testing but all of these devices I connect via ethernet cable seem to all have a slow speed.

I've rebooted the EE Hub and Deco numerous times now and only when turning it off and on there is a brief moment where the speed is okay then drops again. The speed out of the EE Hub is perfect.

Now you get to play with the rest, hope it goes well....

Thanks again JimM11 it is greatly appreciated. So far the speeds have been consistent at the mesh hard-wired but a bit poorer via WiFi but that is kind of expected to an extent. I am having some quality of service issues but I'm not panicking about those yet as the new firmware is yet to be done. So far though things are considerably better 😃.

Wired backhaul on all mesh units is the way to go if possible. EE router is getting there with its FW updates, but it is very much so locked down to keep prying fingers from messing it up. 👍

@ChrisUK24 You have to use the EE app on mobile device now, that lets you rename devices, only way to do it. Alexia no longer works with the EE version of DV and also ringtones no longer function, there is a section digital home phone will give you all the ideas what does/does not work with the service, i dropped landline because of all the problems associated with this type, so mobile only now, but do miss the old landline. Only one that i could see was BT with no issues, but when i joined EE from sky in march, did try to go to BT but not allowed to EE was there option so pushed there. Been OK so far so cannot knock what it is. The BT Smarthub2 will work on the EE service, but just not sure if it maintains its 100% like it did with BT. Only way to know would be to have someone try and compare one to other. You will come up against other issue's so keep a note but you are finding them quickly.
