At the moment there is what looks like a red and white hosepipe coming out of the ground, with a black wire going into the house.

I asked the installer was it going to be left like that and he said yes.

@nuttydames73 Here is the link to the OR Installation, have a look at the FAQ gives example when expanded, this is not to say what a contractor may/may not do on the day, but if you are not happy, EE CS would be required for you to contact to get it sorted if possible. HTH
