Can I specify a broadband connection date?

My current deal ends midnight 7th August. Can I specify my EE connection date as 8th August?

@Marcoee there is no provision to do so on here, but if you give the broadband care team a call they should be able to set it up for you.

If it is another Openreach supplier you are moving from the process should be seemless providing you leave it all for EE to do, and don;t tell your current supplier.

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

I’m actually coming from BT. They couldn’t ‘downgrade’ my very expensive contract, now expired, to the deal a new customer would get so I cancelled everything to start again at ee

@Marcoee Do not see how your deal has expired, but expect you have given BT your notice to quit at the end of your contract. You should also check out other ISP offerings so you know, EE may not treat you as a new customer, so having other price structures will be a good idea and any potential issues before the change. Most new accounts take up to 14 days to get in place and depends on your current connection type. HTH

@Marcoee Alas you are likely to have a few days without service as you have cancelled your BT service due to the way Openreach systems work. They can only deal with one order on a line at a time. So until your cease order completes, EE or any other ISP will not be able to place a new order.

BT require 30 days notice if I remember right, so you need to consider if a seamless transfer is more important than paying both suppliers for a day or two, of even replanning your cutover date 30 days from when you place the order.

Hi Jim11. What happened is my current BT contract had expired and so my service is currently on a rolling basis. I wanted a new cheaper contract but the sales guy wasn’t able to offer me what I wanted. I was on their top end deal - got talked into that a couple of years back - and wanted a much more basic new deal. ee offer the deal I wanted from BT, but it seems BT systems are so complex and convoluted they make it impossible to make such simple changes.

So in the end I just told them to cancel my service, at midnight on 7th Aug, and said I’d start again.

I’m quite happy to pay both companies for a short overlapping period in order to make things as seamless as possible

@Marcoee if you can, ring BT and get them to cancel the cancelation, that way EE will be able to do a seem less ish transfer - at least one on the same day and not have to wait until the cancelation completes.

That said, if you get the right EE person they may be able to get that sorted for you.

@Marcoee As Mustrum has pointed out to you, it is the best way to deal with it, There is no way to have an overlapping service if you cannot get your cancellation cancelled, it can even be worse and potentially leave you without broadband for an extended period. What service type do you have just now fttc or fttp if you know, and you can check with BT wholesale just incase there are other requirements. Hi. Just wanted to thank you both for the advice. I cancelled the cancellation order and am going to be transferred across to ee for the deal I want. Someone experienced and nerdy picked up the phone this time which was very helpful.
