If in doubt, do a factory reset on the router and start again. You only have to set the WAN 2.5Gb port to PPOE and use the username in the link above - no other changes should be needed.

Good evening everyone. I’m needing a little help or advice because I’m officially stumped.

i recently had EE’s full fibre busiest home bundle installed and it’s working ok, however I recently saw that the provided router isn’t capable of the speeds so I purchased a third party gaming router instead, an ASUS ROG Rapture GT AX11000, after running through the setup wizard, the router is reporting it is connected to the internet but none of my devices are getting an internet connection no matter what I do.

i have made sure all IP settings are set to automatic so all settings it’s running are from the network, but my router has been assigned a private IP which I cannot seem to change. I have also gone as far as taking the same settings from the EE router and manually inputting them into my ASUS and it still doesn’t give me internet on any device.

Are third party routers blocked from being used or am I missing something? I’ve been trying to get this setup for a week now and I’m all out of ideas. Can anyone help?

Thanks for your reply. The private IP starts as 10.10, rather than the normal 3 digit prefix it’s a double digit. According to the ASUS website this is because the router “is being told” to use a private IP by the ISP, but I have no way of changing it? It’s using the PPPoE connection which I’m told is normal (I’m no expert) this is my first gaming router, I naturally assumed it would be simply plug in, setup and away I go like any other router.

Thanks for your reply. I can access the admin page no problem, the ASUS app and the admin page all say I’m connected to the internet. But all my devices don’t get an internet connection. I’m sure there’s something else but I’ve checked, re-checked and manually tried entering EEs own settings (taken from the smart hub) and it still won’t work, all the while the router is showing as online and connected? I can’t see what else needs addressed?

Your wired LAN connections would still be limited to 1GbE (same as the EE provided router).

The Asus router has an extra 5GHz wireless radio, but I'm not convinced that would make a great deal of difference unless you're running some sort of mesh setup. The Wi-Fi specs outside of that look comparable to the EE hub.

There's a whole bunch of other features the Asus router offers that the EE hub won't, but in terms of wired/Wi-Fi speeds, I wouldn't expect much of a difference 🤷‍
