Hi,

just happened to notice that EE are currently sending out two different smart hub plus models. The 31 and 32 versions?

are there any differences between them - benefits/weaknesses?
not sure why they would be labelled differently if there aren’t any differences.

I do currently have them both due to a screw up during migration from BT (don't ask I am still wading my way through that).

I have to send one back and obviously don't want to send back the wrong one.

I rang 150 and asked the agent after a tortuous hold period but TBH I am not sure they even knew there were 2 different models and so I am not confident in there answer and so thought I should ask on here.

The 32 model arrived first and the 31 model arrived second. I was also advised by the sales rep that I could just return whichever one I wanted because they didn't care but she TBF didn't know the models would be numbered differently.

Thanks.

We already had fibre to the house from BT and we initially moved to 1.6Gb fibre on same connection, different ONT box.

We now are forced to go back to a 900 connection albeit with EE and so they have sent the kit out again because that is how their automated process works.

That should also be as a fibre to the home.

It sounds (worringly) if the order is now possibly placed to move us to a FTTC connection if that is what this router is for. My paranoia is based on the experience so far which is Homeric already.

Sounds as if I will need to just double check things are correct on the order to ensure that it doesn't all close down in a week or so...

If anyone else from EE can be more specific about the boxes please let me know. I am just surprised that I can't find any specification sheet for the hardware models - can't remember that ever happening before. Google knows nothing apparently about it either.

You could also tag someone from forum CS, they may have more insight for you. And the F5394-CP EE for the Smart HUB SH31B can run the 900mb/s on Ethernet at full speed, and faster on a wi-fi(6) device, but the speed is limited to the fibre package purchased.

The label with fttc on it if i remember did have an ethernet cable in the box, so it covered both for connection type... FTTC requires a possible filter if there is no master socket for the DSL connection type that has the newer rj11 connection, if someone is unlucky and has an older socket then they could be kind of stuck. YOU have nothing to worry about.

The first router I received was supposed to run 1.6gb to the house but wired speeds were limited to 1gb ports in the router (in terms of a single device speed) but the wifi should have handled up to 1.6b. The GB port limitation seems an odd choice by them. That was the '32' model. So maybe they are just downgrading the router as well as the line speed to the house. Not sure. I have rung since my last post and got through straight away. They confirmed that regardless that the order remained for Fibre to the house which is the main thing.

We want the 1.6gb speed but can't have it due to sales systems constraints would preclude Hybrid connect and EETV packages. Weird but true.

I won't post pictures of the base mainly because I can't easily access the installed router where it's positioned without a lot of hassle but pretty sure it was the standard label with the model number shown above ,password etc etc. i.e. it won't help.

Cheers - appreciate your help.

You needn't worry on that score. If a router works on FTTC then it'll certainly work on FTTP as it doesn't need to use its VDSL modem. Both routers will work on FTTP & VDSL & ADSL.

It is not clear which router you are referring to when you say "this (or the) router. Would you specify "31B" or "32B" when you do.

Then, EE provider the SH+32B on placing my broadband order with them.

Compared to the SH+31B ADSL/FTTP modem, the SH32B FTTP modem runs much, much cooler all the time.
