1.6 busiest home package slow speeds

so officially switch from BT 900 to BT 1.6 gbps today, and what a disappointment it has been so far, not getting anyway near advertised speeds and even lower than guaranteed speed of 1.3gbps, most i have had is 1150mbps and sometimes shows 870mbps which is lower than what i was getting from bt 900 that was averaging around 940/960 consistently. uploads are fine as they are low anyway not too much of a task to get 115 up. so my hardware is as follows asus rog rapture gt ax11000 pro going into a 2.5gbps switch then going into a z690 mobo with a 2.5gbps lan, all connected with cat 6 cables and drivers updated for all hardware. from my point of view there is nothing on my end that would bottleneck me this bad, so it has to be on EE end. i have seen multiple people with the same type of setups and are getting 1.6 plus download speeds.

so my question to anyone that bothers to read this or has had any similar problems, can you let me know if it got resolved overtime ? or if there may be a setting to fix said issue may inside asus router.

@EQUINOX1 Some speed related FTTP info, and will assume that the ONT has been replaced with it's interface now having a 2.5Gbps network port also which will require to be switched by EE so you have a 1.6 speed setting anytime up to midnight.

FTTP is a contended service, up to 32 users can be sharing the 2.5Gb backhaul, so you can never expect the full speed all the time, you may get 900mb when there are fewer people using it. I expect that you are sharing the backhaul with many users. If everyone was using it fully, you may only get 78mbs. Its called statistical multiplexing, which relies on the fact that all users are not utilising their connection fully, all of the time.

BT quote up to 900mb, so you are likely to get much less than that during peak times.

Speed tests pass very little data, so normally give a much higher speed.

Correct me if I am wrong but according to the blurb the Rapture 11000 has 4x 1Gb Lan ports not 2.5Gb.

When you got your best speed was it via ethernet or was it WiFi.

@timprocter according to that spec the router has a 2.5Gb WAN port, and a 10Gb WAN/LAN port, I presume the latter is connected to the switch, but it would be good for @EQUINOX1 to confirm, and if they have tested via this port?

@Mustrum @timprocter so the ont is connected to the wan 2.5gbps on the router and the 10gig port is connected to my 2.5gbps switch and then to my pc 2.5 lan port. as of testing today it has gone as low as 700mbps download at times, upload has stayed consistent. i have bought a new cat 8 cable and ran it directly to pc still no change. i will also be trying an ethernet adapter for my pc to see if the motherboard is the problem but i doubt it.

@JimM11 yes mate the ont got replaced by the engineer for the new 2.5gbps cable one and activated. as for the backhaul i did read up about that before, but they cant guarantee a minimum speed of 1.3gbps knowing that your line will be oversaturated with too many other users, that's just false advertisement might as well of stayed with bt 900 and got my consistent 940ish mbps. thanks for the input anyway.

@EQUINOX1 Just to be sure that you are not confused by your statement earlier, EE have the guaranteed speed, as sync speed to the router, which as you say has a min value of 1.3gbps, this is completely irrelevant to the speed of the download that you will/have/can get from another connected device. Your devices all appear to be connected fine, with your max 2.5gb ethernet connection, and if you have or had another device with those kind of speed's then you could do a transfer across those to ensure that your network is good. It may be that the fibre on the ONT and or OR/EE have not provisioned it correctly yet, there is no easy way to find that out. You could check that at least the Router 2.5GB port on the wan does show it is connected at that speed to the ONT, it is available via the Asus router interface.

All I can add is I bought this particular Asus router especially for this 1.6Gb package hoping it would work.🤞

I was limited to similar speeds as reported here and yes I had it connected to the 10Gb port same as reported here.

I obviously read these forums every post regarding the speed issues people were having, One user posted he was getting full speed after purchasing the TP-Link BE19000 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 7 Router so I duly took a chance and bought one myself.

Never had a minutes problem with either speed or connection issues since I bought it.

This router pictured below sadly got sold.

And this tp-link router works a charm😎

So, after 4 weeks of no service transferring from Sky 900Mb to EE 1.6Gb I am finally up and running

There were multiple problems ceasing the old service before the new next generation service could be built

Running at full speed so far and IPV6 working perfect

I am using a Draytek 3912 router and a Q2200x 2.5G Switch

I have taken your advice and got the tp link be9300 as the model you got is now out of stock and by the looks of it this version is out of life.

I am hoping that the be9300 will sort all the problems I am having, if it does the asus will be returned for a refund.

will let you know if my speeds improve.

Good to see your all up and running and ipv6 is a 10/10.

Would you mind sharing the settings you use for ipv6 as I'm struggling to get it working on my Draytek 2962 and Draytek support haven't come up with any suggestions as of yet to get it working - all fine on the supplied EE router.

@timprocter thanks for the info surprised to say it was the asus router, like you said tp link works like a charm! getting over 1600mbps now on ethernet and about 1500 over wifi so problem all sorted now.

Basically you just need to copy these screens, these are from a Draytek 3912, but I think the interface on yours is the same more or less

The password is either blank or just use BT, the user name will be bthomehub@btbroadband.com

By the way you can increase the MTU to 1500 as BT/EE support baby jumbo frames (1508 bytes).

Thank you for those screens, much appreciated.

My set up was the same (also using default Lan IPv6 settings), but I am assuming that the Draytek must have had a 'Brain Death' with all the combinations I had tried over the last few weeks!!

I decided to do a full system reboot, and after getting back into the system and resetting every thing back up It now works fine - problem I had was not getting an IPv6 gateway etc (even though they were showing on status screen) and DNS settings only working when set to 'always on' instead of when Wan was up on device interface screens (LAN/WiFi).

Hi,

Did you do anything else other than switch router? I've gotten the same tp-link model and whilst the ethernet speeds are amazing, I can't push past 1gbps on wifi.

My wifi devices all support Wifi 6e

@MoCash And when you are testing the speed's you have only one wi-fi device enabled, and all others are off correct?
