we just got ee wifi after being on bt for a few years and i had no prior issues, i had my tp link power line adapters connected to my router and my pc to give me internet and ever since we started with ee i haven’t been able to get wifi almost at all, if i do it’s for around 2 minutes and it’s the slowest thing i’ve ever seen. our router is downstairs and i’m not sure if being upstairs is the issue as my brother’s xbox is also quite laggy he says (he is also on the upstairs floor) though our mobile devices work just fine with this new wifi. they’re sending us a new router shortly but i’m just wondering if there is anything i should buy to help improve this connection? i’m hoping the new router can fix this issue but i’m not too educated on wifi issues as everything worked well for me smoothly with my BT router and the ethernet adapters. please let me know if this is a common issue & if you have any recommendations on purchases to improve and fix my wifi

The main diff on the WiFi front between the BT & EE routers is that BT SH2 is WiFi-5 while EE SH+ is WiFi-6 which your PC might not be able to cope with. Turn down the SH+ router from WiFi-6 to WiFi-5.

The only fix is temporary which is restarting my router which is just an inconvenience for my entire household & only lasts about 5 minutes with terrible speed , running a diagnostic test it tells me to investigate router issues so i don’t know if i was sent a faulty router or what

I fear you are misreading it. 5 GHz is a frequency of whatever WiFi standard is being used. It is not the same as WiFi-5! Now just go to the page I told you of.

@TiaWbs So that is the 4010 model, rated at 600mb/s on electrical interface, but has 100Mb/s ethernet connection to PC and to Router. To reset the unit to factory, you hold the button on front of unit for 6 seconds, until the power LED flashes.

This resets the units to factory settings, do BOTH units.

To pair to the router, press button on front for 1 second, then press wps button on the router, this will pair the unit to the broadband, DO BOTH units one at a time and keep close to the router when doing so, then they will be on the same electrical power circuit.

Once done, move the unit back to your PC, connect it back up and make sure all 3 LED's are on each unit.

If not sure, go to the Tp-Link web site, select downloads, powerline, and the PA-4010 units, this will show you the manuals and quick setup guides.

Logging into the router on 192.168.1.254 and selecting advanced, wireless settings and make sure that you have WPA2 - personal selected for your security connection and remember to SAVE to apply the option.

Do you have another device ie a laptop that you can plug that cable into to test the ethernet from point to point, I have the latest superhub + and using those adapters with no problem.

My tp-link is plugged into port 4 of the router ethernet connections. though should not matter which port it is plugged into.

If you log into the router on 192.168.1.254 you should be able to see the port status, but this needs a working connection.

See if you can select advanced on your pc network card and force an option for 100MB/S you cannot get gigabyte option as the 4010's only have 100mb/s interface on them.

@TiaWbs So take it moving power socket was your correction, it's nothing you have done wrong, powerline always works better socket to socket, the new EE router does show the issue more quickly than the older hubs, i am going to test a new ethernet link cable but this will be tomorrow, did notice drop in speed, but think that the supplied cable from TP-LINK only have 2 pairs connected on the cable is slower, but i do not need the speed as yet, but will change to a 4 pair cable both ends and let you know how it goes. At least your up and running now, CABLE is always better than wi-fi connection, keep that in mind.

Jim
