Smart Hub Plus SH31B - does not support PSTN phone (BT Smart Hub 2 did)

I was persuaded to 'upgrade' from BT Smart Hub 2 (FTTP) to EE Smart Hub SH31B. All good expect my PSTN wireless phones can no longer receive calls (can make call fine). They replugged directly in to the Phone socket on back on hub.

Seems like the EE Smart Hub SH31B is not an upgrade at all?

I have FTTP with BT.

I was recently persuaded to 'upgrade' from BT Smart Hub 2 to EE Smart Hub SH31B. All good expect my PSTN wireless phones (BeoCom 6000 mkII) can no longer receive calls (they can make outgoing calls fine). They are plugged directly in to the Phone socket on back of the hub.

Any ideas welcome?

Caller hears a couple of rings and then the call drops (continuous tone).

After much research this seems to be something to do with the 'bell wire', it seems this new fangled EE Smart hub 3 is unable to recognise by my BeoComm 6000 phone system (which worked flawlessly when plugged directly in to the back of the previous BT Smart Hub 2).

I have tried various combinations of using a splitter with a normal old fashioned BT phone, using a filter and using the wireless adapter for positioning your socket away from the router. No joy.

So I either use the EE Smart Hub 3 with my old fashioned BT phone plugged in the back (not at all convenient as its in a difficult to reach location), or I revert to the BT Smart Hub 2 and everything works fine.

it also cannot support PSTN phone systems in the way the almost identical BT Smart Hub 2 did..

@jamiemac1 : Why should it? The PTSN is being switched off & being replaced by VoIP (BT DV or EE Digital Home Phone). The EE SH+ no more supports PTSN than BT SH2 does.

thing is my BT Smart Hub 2 does support my old BeoCom 6000 system, whereas the EE Smart Hub 3 does not, so I have had to swap back to the BT Smart Hub 2?

@jamiemac1 : You're confusing the network, which is being switched off, with the phone handsets that you used use on that network. They should be equally compatible with VoIP when plugged into suitable sockets on the router or adapter.

Indeed OK, thanks for the clarification. So the issue is that the EE Smart Hub 3 is not able to support my handsets that were compatible with BT Smart Hub 2. I have seen this issue on a number of forums, so it's not just just my phones (B&O Beocom 6000's)

It's not down to the router but the whole infrastructure of EE's Digital Home Phone system. There are other EE users experiencing similar issues. When you were on the BT SH2 there were not such issues with BT DV.

I have exactly the same issue - a Beocomm 6000 phone that I want to keep and a new EE hub . The phone is plugged into the hub, will make outgoing calls, as you say , but incoming it just rings once then disconnects . Prev BT hub worked perfectly . Was persuaded by EE to change as they said BT was now only for business customers but wish U hadn’t now as can’t receive incoming calls ( which has recently been an issue)

Is there no work round at all?

I tried all suggestions I could find, including a spitter to include a normal fixed line handset, different adaptors 2 to 4 pin etc and even a wireless adapter to force a delay in ring reponse time. noting worked so I have continued to use by BT Hub and left the EE hub in its box. B&O were no help.

I have just the same issue as everyone else and it’s really annoying me. Have done some more googling and am wondering if a voip gateway device will work ? You can get them on Amazon for £30-£40. Apparently they convert analog phones to voip routers ? If anyone knows if this will work would be grateful for letting me know

@Darwent the router is alreadt your VOIP gateway, adding another would not help with EE DV as it would not be compatible.

Given the BT Smart Hub 2 works OK, I would be asking EE to supply one, although I am sure you could pick one up if you wanted.

EE changed me to the EE router from BT as they said BT were just going to be for business. I’m wanting ( like jamiemac1) to get my Beocomm 6000 phone to work with the EE router but am really struggling

I’ve not come across anyone who has managed to get their Beocom phones to work with the new EE router. My BT hub is has continued to work perfectly supporting 500mb fibre too 🙂 so I’m not stressed.

EE don’t really understand the issue, the only one that seemed to basically said no chance of supporting that as it it’s a relatively rare issue.. 😞
