BT WiFi or EE Wifi is an unsecured connection. BT Wifi-X or EE Wifi-X is a secure connection.

It is part of the BT/EE Broadband Free Wifi service - the BT/EE Wifi-X SSID allows devices to auto connect without the user having to login via a landing page.

If it was showing up with your own BT/EE Hub turned off, then the BT/EE WiFi hotspots would be from nearby BT/EE Hubs, as already mentioned in this thread by @XRaySpeX

This isn't a new thing, it was just the same as BT have been doing for many, many years on their hubs, of which you could simply opt out of it if you wanted too.

https://www.bt.com/help/broadband/how-do-i-opt-out-of-bt-wi-fi-#:~:text=Go%20to%20www.bt.com,to%20the%20opt%2Dout%20section

EE just did exactly the same and you've always had the option of opting out of this easily, just as @John-C has posted in the marked solution to this thread.

Most people won't get it now on their EE hubs and it shouldn't be displayed for everybody to see.

It is still available though, although it is hidden away ftom public view and technically only really should be used now by engineers.

For more on this, read the full post in this old thread below, as I've just included the relevant part for this thread:

https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Apple-Devices/How-do-you-connect-to-EE-WiFI-X/td-p/1319948

.....this signal has been withdrawn and is now only available for engineer use. It was originally designated for iPad and iPhones users, due to the way these devices had to connect to our network. However this was resolved and is being phased out and removed....

Hi there, yesterday I started to get EE Home broadband, I have noticed that it shows the SSIDs: ee wifi (open) and ee wifi x (closed) networks too that other people can log in to if they have ee login details.

II'd like to opt out from this service. I did not agree to share my broadband with anyone else so would like to stop these other networks appearing.

I have looked through xx.xx.xx.254 dashboard settings and advanced settings and app but cannot see a way of stopping these sharing networks.

Can I please have some help to remove this SSIDs from my Smart Hub Plus, router model SH31B? thanks

How does the answer to another question get marked as the fix, yet the original question has yet to be answered?

There was an issue with hidden SSID's on the previous revision of some BT based routers, but was fixed with a firmware update.

In my area at least it seems to be BT Customer routers that are broadcasting the EE WiFi SSID perhaps @bobpullen can comment?
