Documentation for Smart Router's NAS services: SMB and uPnP

Trying to use a USB drive on EE Smart Router, but can't see any documentation.

When I try to access the Router's SMB service (from a Linux client), I get

smbclient - protocol negotiation failed: NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_DISCONNECTED

I think the Router does support these services (I asked the sales person about that before upgrading)
and my smart TV can access the Router's USB drive using the VLC app. But I can't see "what's under the hood" of the VLC app to find out how it is negotiating the SMB and/or uPnP protocols.

Also, my EE phone won't connect to the Router's USB storage.

Where is the documentation, please?

You need to enable SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support. In Windows this is to be found in Windows Features. I dunno what it'll be in Unix.

Thanks. Just to be certain - you're talking about "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" on the SMB client?
And, any idea what to enable on my EE mobile phone?

Yes, on the SMB Client.

Sorry, don't know how SMB is handled on mobiles.

EE Smart Router Device Guide is all you'll find on EE site but unfortunately they have recently unlinked it from their Help pages (had to fall back on Google to re-find it). No mention of USB drives.

Another thing to note is that I believe the router currently supports only NTFS, FAT16 or FAT32 formatted drives.

Thanks for that. (Yes good point about the file format. USB drive is working as I can access it through the VLC app, which unfortunately doesn't give me file transfer.)

The Guide is just basic set up, alas. Nothing about the protocols/interfaces for SMB or uPnP.

The EE Smart Router is based on the BT Smart Router 2. You might want to peruse Search "BT Smart Router 2 USB" to see what the BT Community have to say on the subject, incl. Linux. They do confirm that it supports SMB 1.0 only.

Where do I find the username and password for the SMB? All the links above are now broken. A link to a user manual would be helpful, or a replacement router that DOES have one?

For others looking to get this to work, especially on Linux, checkout this simple tip to install SMBv1 Samba Support.

Like magic, the USB Stick appears in Windows Network section of File Manager. Simple and works. 🙂
