How to deactivate the SSIDs "ee wifi" and "ee wifi-x" from my Smart Hub Plus

Hi there, yesterday I started to get EE Home broadband, I have noticed that it shows the SSIDs: ee wifi (open) and ee wifi x (closed) networks too that other people can log in to if they have ee login details.

II'd like to opt out from this service. I did not agree to share my broadband with anyone else so would like to stop these other networks appearing.

I have looked through xx.xx.xx.254 dashboard settings and advanced settings and app but cannot see a way of stopping these sharing networks.

Can I please have some help to remove this SSIDs from my Smart Hub Plus, router model SH31B? thanks

The EE Smart Hub Plus it does not broadcast any EE WiFi SSIDs. You must be seeing your neighbours'.

It does! … If I switch off my Hub, these unwanted SSIDs disappear. When I switch on they just appear again.

Odd. My EE Smart Hub Plus does not broadcast any EE WiFi SSIDs.

It does broadcast hidden SSID on 2.4 and 5 GHz, which I would like to turn off, but EE do not give customers the option to do so.

@huggons : Yes you can! On the Home > Advanced settings > Advanced wireless page you can switch OFF both the 2.4 & 5 GHz Bands.

I can see no option to turn off the hidden ssids. I am aware that of the option to turn off either 2.4 or 5 GHz, but this is not the same thing. Is that what you are referring to?

@huggons : What hidden SSID? There's only the normal visible 2.4 & 5 GHz SSID + the optional visible Guest SSID.

The router broadcasts hidden SSID on 2.4 and 5 GHz. If you want to see them you can use a WiFi analyser.

@huggons : I think I see what you mean but they are both on the SH+'s Guest network. Perhaps if you don't use a Guest network they will go away.

This are not related to the guest network. My guest network is set to off. It is the same on the previous EE router too. Take a look at your own EE router, if you have one and you can see for yourself.

@huggons : I'll give it a try the next time I put my EE SH up. The BrightBox doesn't exhibit any hidden SSIDs. The Q is was it the last EE router not to 😉 ?

Hi All, I've checked and to opt out of EE wifi please log into your EEID and go to: https://ee.co.uk/plans-subscriptions/eewifi

You should then follow the steps below to opt out.

@John-C : All that says is that you'll lose access to EE WiFi hotspots but it doesn't say it'll turn off the EE WiFi on your own router giving access to others.

How does the answer to another question get marked as the fix, yet the original question has yet to be answered?

There was an issue with hidden SSID's on the previous revision of some BT based routers, but was fixed with a firmware update.

In my area at least it seems to be BT Customer routers that are broadcasting the EE WiFi SSID perhaps @bobpullen can comment?
