Rather than change the security, some smart devices are 2.4Ghz only. So if you log into the router go to the advanced wireless settings and switch off the 5Ghz band off whilst you connect the device.

You may also need to change the Mode type for really stubborn devices.

Once connected, switch back the 5Ghz band and you should be OK.

Hi,

I've just switched to "New EE", Full Fibre 500 Essentials. I have three Wifi Extenders.

Since moving from Sky broadband, when everything was working perfectly, I cannot connect my 4 smart plugs, a wifi lightswitch or an underfloor heating thermostat.

I've gone into my Hub settings, and turned off 5 Ghz. But I still can't connect.

It's driving me insane, my outdoor office heating is managed on these smart devices and I'm freezing!

I've called EE, they won't help as I'm asking about third party devices.

Thanks.

For the WiFI security method, do you have the option to change it to WPA or WPA 2? I've a feeling this will be a result of your devices needing legacy WiFi settings within the smart hub and @XRaySpeX has knowledge of this.

Maybe try contacting the manufacturer of the smart plugs and check if they can help.

Some devices remember the network settings and don't allow you to connect to the new network unless you fully reset them. I had that issue with wifi camera. I had to factory reset it and set it up as a new device.

Hope this helps.

I have managed to connect by a different method. I reset the plugs by holding the power button and instead of using the app to connect directly, I connected to the smart plugs wifi network from my phone.

I still can't connect to one last smart device, which is a SONOFF light switch. I've tried everything. Might replace the light switch.
