EE hub as modem ?

Hi, I’m looking for information to confirm, lots of conflicting details!!
Can the EE hub be used purely as a modem / bridge mode as wish to use my own ASUS router? Thanks

No! All you can do is turn off its WiFi & let the ASUS handle that.

Sorry, not sure I understand that reply.
you say NO to modem mode / bridge mode but say turn off wifi , how does the equipment know to be a modem only or will this be all it can be if wifi is off ? Then by connecting ASUS it becomes router ?

By "No" I do mean No! Turning off WiFi doesn't make a modem. It just means it won't handle any WiFi connections, leaving them to the secondary router.

@A319 what package are you on? if you're on fibre you can plug your Asus router into the ONT (like I do) and use that for wifi/internet.

There are instructions on this forum for using a third party router here:-using-and-configuring-a-third-party-router

If you wish to retain your existing hub, (or you're not on a fibre connection) - you can turn off wifi on it, and just use your asus as a secondary router as mentioned above. 🙂

Sorry, what do you mean by plug into ONT ?

currently on VM 600mb using hub3 and its used as modem with ASUS acting as my router .

but considering changing to EE / BT full fibre 900 but need to be sure I can continue with same

Like @miggle says, if you're moving to full fibre then you'll be able to connect the Asus unit directly to the fibre termination point via it's WAN port (with some minor configuration). You won't need the EE-provided hub at all if you choose not to use it.

@A319 you will be provided with an ONT that is mounted on the wall as part of your installation. You can plug the ASUS router directly into the ethernet socket on that as @bobpullen says.

That goes into your WAN port on the Asus router.

@A319 it's REALLY easy. in your ASUS router all you have to do is to enter the PPPoe login details in the WAN section and away you go. Literally take you less than 30 seconds. the details are in the page I linked earlier up the thread.

well I'm on the top tier, but You can expect fantastic speeds. The BT engineer will run a test for you, and tell you your expected speed. Although because you've got an ASUS router, you can also run a speed test from that e.g. (note edited out my SSID oops!)

Unable to see the images you’ve posted unfortunately, just seeing a yellow triangle with black outline!?

Time has come to depart VM as CS getting worse, and a ball ache every time contract approaches end, I’m sure it will be same with EE, but at least I have all equipment in place to chop and change every contract renewal , or at least say it …

VM will have to come up with a super offer for me to stay, that’s for sure…

I was originally a sign up with BT but I challenged them on Black Friday deals today, and been changed to EE (I know same Co) with a discount, for full fibre 900, so far, provided I can get ASUS to work with decent ish speed I’ll be happy as larry !

based on what I’ve learnt here, I plug the ASUS router directly into the wall connection that BT or EE will install - and I won’t need the EE router.

appreciate help, I will head back here on install day , 1st December for help. Thanks all.

Hello, so today my wall connection has been fitted by OpenReach and the BB works, now I’ve removed the EE router and plugged ASUS directly into wall but nothing yet… can I ask for guidance please on the setting changes I need to make
