EE Broadband vs Staying with BT

I'm coming back online after a flat renovation and I've chosen to go with EE broadband which I'm told works out slightly cheaper in the long run.

As I like to do some gaming, a fast ping is everything with regards to the broadband connection. My question is that since BT is the parent company of EE, does than mean there are more router hops to the internet and therefore the ping a couple of milliseconds higher? Remember I like to game at a high level, a fast ping is everything.

Actual download speeds matter less to me, but it seems that information is all that is put in the advertising targeted to people who less understand the jargon, there is nothing comparing latency between companies especially for gamers.

Another question is I noticed some providers like to filter out sites like VPNs, filesharing and such, I know Virgin Media restricts some access. What about EE? I just want to be able to do what I want, nothing illegal. As far as I know BT only filters that torrent site the government told all ISPs to filter out which is fair enough.

It's nowt to do with the BT Group being the parent company of EE but more to do with both BT Consumer, who is the ISP, & EE both using the same Broadband infrastructure supplied by Openreach, all 3 of which subsidiaries of the BT Group. The same could said of IDNet & Andrews & Arnold (A&A), 2 other ISPs, not subsidiaries of the BT Group, who also use the OR infrastructure.

All things being equal the BB service from all these ISPs should be the same, the only diff being price & customer service.

Very few ISPs are open or knowledgeable about latency & use for gaming. The last 2 ISPs mentioned are much more likely to be technically knowledgeable in more obscure uses of BB than EE or BT, particularly A&A who are renown for making efforts to fix issues, but they are much more expensive.

EE do not block VPN.
